You're Engaged Yay!

Engagement sessions are a wonderful way to capture the love and excitement between a couple before their wedding day. As a wedding photographer, I understand the importance of creating beautiful and meaningful engagement photos. To help you make the most out of your session, here are some essential tips to prepare:

Wear something comfortable

Wear something comfortable: It's crucial to feel relaxed during your engagement session. Choose outfits that make you feel comfortable and confident. When you're at ease, your genuine emotions will shine through in the photos.

Pick clothes that reflect your personality

Your engagement photos should be a reflection of your unique style and personality as a couple. Select outfits that represent who you are and make you feel like your best selves.

Coordinate your outfits

While you want your outfits to reflect your individual styles, it's essential to coordinate with your partner. You don’t want to create the illusion of being your partner’s siamese twin. When multiple people wear the same colour, sometimes their matching outfits blend together so much that you can’t really see any of them properly. Instead, you want to find complementary outfits that showcase a variety of colours, textures, patterns, and tones. The idea is to have everything look good together without everything looking the same.

Embrace Neutral Colours

Neutral colours such as whites, creams, greys, and pastels tend to photograph beautifully and create a timeless look. These colours allow the focus to remain on you and your connection as a couple.

Patterns and Logos

Be careful with patterns and prints. Usually, subtle smaller patterns work best. Flannels or a light floral print are great when they complement the location. But less is definitely more with this one, try to limit yourself to one pattern at a time. Matching patterns is a tricky task, and it’s super difficult to do well.

Much like crazy patterns, clothing with writing or logos on it tends to be a bit distracting. We’re not getting paid for Adidas’ for a not so- subtle product placement. However, if the logo or phrase is tasteful (read: not tacky), in theme with the shoot, and fits your personality, I’m all for it!

Embrace the Elegance of White

Don't be afraid to wear white! White outfits can add a touch of elegance and simplicity to your engagement photos. Embrace the purity and timelessness that white brings to the images.

Add Personal Touches with Accessories

Incorporate accessories that hold sentimental value or reflect your personal style as a couple. Hats, scarves, jewelry, or props can add a personal touch and enhance your engagement photos.

Props! Props! Props!

A great way to reinforce the personality of your shoot can be to add a few props. When picking things to add to your shoot, you'll want to make sure they don't seem too out of place. Your props should match the location of your shoot, and the overall feel or theme, and most importantly they should match your personality.

Props don’t have to scream ‘PROP!” Go for the subtle things that accentuate your personality and help to tell a story about your life.

Think of bringing pets, champagne, flowers, an umbrella, a cozy blanket, a bike or even a box of pizza. Whatever you two think would make the day more fun and romantic
